This book was a good read. It was about 3 women that’ve been friends for 20 plus years and were having a lot of things go on in their life. The 3 ladies Debra, Maxine and Renee meet at a soul food café monthly to catch up on life. They have been going to this soul food café since they were kids.
Debra has been married for years with one child, but her life is the same routine. She hooked up with a teacher and had an affair. Someone saw them and her life went through so much from there. Can you just imagine almost losing your family, job, and self over one mistake. As the saying goes it’s not always greener on the other side. She just wanted her husband to do more, spend more time. That goes back to communication: talk to your partner let them know how you feel before it even gets to that point to want to step out. Is it really worth it a fling of something new to lose so much over? Something to really think about.
Maxine now this lady has her own business, she lives a fancy life, nice car, crib, and has millions. She has all this and still is not happy. She judges and finds faults in every man she dates. He might not be too attractive, or don’t have enough money, always excuses. She after a man that’s not into her but into her friend. She also has a good man that loves her for her. Is it a girl code that if your friend is interested in him you can’t date him? Is it wrong to let your friend be happy even if she knows you were into him? So much to think about. Do we really have to have what we really want in a man? These are the things we must think about in life.
Renee now had a great life and was in love, good job but her dad got real sick with Alzheimer’s and her mom passed and left a bookstore behind. She gave up her life to go home and be there for her dad and leave her wonderful life behind. It’s so hard for her and finally she meets a wonderful man that her best friend likes but he is not into the best friend he is into her. She goes on dates and enjoys his company until her best friend finds out. Must ask is love worth losing a friendship of over 20 yrs.? Would you give up your life to take care of loved ones?
This book shows that no matter what your friends are always there when needed. Brunch at Ruby’s is a funny, loving, and inspiring book. Have some sad moments but have lifetime bonds that bend but never break. We all go through hard times in life, but do you have the right people to be there through those times. Sometimes you must do what you don’t want to do but know that it’s always a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Follow your heart and not your mind. Never give up even when life gets tough. These characters in this book made it real this is what we go through in life, real situations. Great book can’t wait to read another one by her.
