    By: Cece Hymes

Artis Leon Ivey Jr also known as Coolio was a Grammy award winning rapper. I remember listening to Gangsta’s Paradise all the time. I also got a chance to interview him and do an article on him. He was funny and down to earth.  Glad to get to know his wife, she is also a down to earth person and loved that they keep it real. Here is some of my favorite songs by him:

    ·         Gangsta’s Paradise

    ·         Fantastic Voyage

    ·         C U When U Get There

    ·         What is an MC

If you ever watched the film Dangerous Minds that’s where Gangsta’s Paradise was on, and everyone loved that movie. Did you know he was on Celebrity Wife Swap? He also loved to cook. He was the cooking master. He talked about doing something with cooking that he was working on. He also had 17 million records sold worldwide.

I was Glad to get to know him a little and I definitely want to give prayers to wife Mimi and his family. They had a great connection, and they were doing a couple of videos you can check out online. So, quotes by him that I loved:

“Life is too short to not have fun; we are only here for a short time compared to the sun and the moon and all that”

“I want to provide a well-rounded perspective life”

    Betty White

    By: Cece Hymes

The Great Betty White left us last year on December 31. Betty White was an actress and comedian. We all loved her on the Golden Girls. If you are in the Rochester NY area don’t miss the opportunity to see one of Betty’s Emmy awards for hosting the game show “Just Men”. It’s on display at The Strong Museum in Adam’s Atrium. ·         The First Producer to Hire a Female Director

I love quotes here are some of Betty White Quote that inspires us:

“Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.”

“If you’re able to make someone’s day then do it, because this world needs more love & kindness.”

“Animals are near and dear to my heart, and I’ve devoted my life to trying to improve their lives.”

Betty White became a staple panelist of American game shows such as:

  • James Brown (Great Memories)

    James Brown

    By: Cece Hymes

As you know we lost a lot of people over the years, but we have so many memories and they have left an impact on our lives.  I want to shout out James Brown today. He was known as the “Godfather of Soul” “Mr. Dynamite” and “Soul Brother”.  He was an awesome entertainer.  Some of my favorite songs by him was:

    ·         It’s a Man’s Man’s World

    ·         Get Up Offa That Thing

    ·         I Got a Feeling

    ·         Say IT Loud-I’m Black and I’m Proud

    ·         I Got You

    ·         Get On the Good Foot

Did you know that Get on The Good Foot was certified Gold by the RIAA! Recorded at Sound craft Studios in Georgia, the song features Fred Wesley on trombone and Fred Thomas on Bass. James Brown also had a bridge dedicated to his honor and legacy in Steamboat Springs, Colorado!

    Three of his quotes are:

“Hair is the first thing. And teeth the second. Hair and teeth. A man got those two things, he’s got it all”.

“You got to live for yourself, yourself and nobody else”

“Sometimes I feel like I’m a preacher as well, cause I can really get into an audience”

What I really love about James Brown is that he can dance. I love great entertainers. He was a legendary showman and musician. Some of his famous dance moves were “The Camel Walk”, “The Popcorn” and “The James Brown”. He was also inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.  He worked at many radio stations throughout his career. • Robin Williams (Great Memories)

    Robin Williams

    By: Cece Hymes

We have lost a lot of people, but we have so many memories. Do you remember Robin Williams, he was an actor and comedian.  He played in these movies:

    ·         Mrs. Doubtfire

    ·         Dead Poets Society

    ·         Jumanji

    ·         Night at the Museum

    ·         Aladdin

    ·         Hook

    ·         Flubber

I just found out that in every movie he filmed he asked the production company to hire at least 10 homeless people. During his entire career, he helped approximately 1520 homeless people. I thought this was absolutely awesome. We never really hear about the good that people have done in the community. Here were some of his favorite quotes that I loved.

“Don’t associate yourself with toxic people”

    “There’s a world out there….”

“The only weapon we have is the comedy”

What was your favorite movie that Robin Williams was in? What did you love about Robin Williams? I challenge you to watch 1 movie that he was in today and tell me about it. Even if you watched it before, just go back and watch one movie by him. I am going to watch “The Night at the Museum”.

Can’t wait to hear about your favorite one. Also follow me @cece.atl

  • Uphill by Jemele Hill

    Book: Uphill

    Author: Jemele Hill

    By: Cece Hymes

I got a chance to read this book about Jemele Hill about her life and how she got to where she is today. I didn’t know much about who she was. I have seen her a couple of times on social media. I love reading people’s bio and learning about their life. What interests me about her is that she was in journalism and sports.

I am a journalist and getting more into sports. So I wanted to get to know more about her story. The book was very interesting. She went through a lot growing up and watching her parents go through hard times. I like that she speaks her mind freely. She doesn’t fake it for anyone. She always liked to write but never thought she would be into writing for a living. She has been on ESPN and other positions as a reporter.

We all go through things growing up and it’s not where you have been but it’s where you are going and what you decide to change in your life. I am glad she didn’t let her childhood put her in a bad place and that she was aware and kept going in life. This book was great and now that I know more about her life and journey, she has gained a fan with me. I did take some notes and tips on growing and getting more involved with sports and events.

Make sure to check the book out and let me know what you think.

  • Legacy

What type of Legacy do you want to leave/carry before your time is up?

The Legacy I want to leave to my family is business and ownership of things. I want them to have something that continues down the line entrepreneurship. This will carry the name on forever from generations and generations. My business is one I will teach them everything they need to know about ownership and running a business.

Schools don’t teach kids those things we as a generation need to be taught. Business wealth goes a long way.

Let me know what you plan to leave behind.
