By: Cece Hymes

Ozzie Smith is a former professional baseball player, nicknamed “The Wizard of Oz”, Ozzie played shortstop for the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball, winning the National League Gold Glove Award. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year. He was also elected to the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame in the inaugural class.

Ozzie Smith had a mean flip in baseball, he wasn’t called “The Wizard” for nothing. He inspired so many people all over the world. He had 13 Gold Glove awards. He is definitely a sports icon. Check out some of his baseball cards and some of his talent on YouTube. You would be amazed by his backflips and how good of a player he was.
