  • Book Lovers book by Emily Henry

    Book: Book Lovers

    Author:  Emily Henry

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was about a lady named Nora who is complex, deep, funny and more. She is a literary agent who identifies more with the villains in romance movies than the heroines. She has a sister named Libby who swayed her to go on vacation to a small town. They make a to-do list to do before their trip ends. Her sister Libby is married with 2 kids and one on the way. Nora missed hanging out with her sister and thinks this trip is going to bring them closer together.

When they arrive in this small town she didn’t expect to run into Charlie, the surly editor she’s avoided ever since their disastrous meeting. They email each other about books. Being in this small town they have gotten to get to know each other and see that they are alike in so many ways. They turn each other on in their own way.

Charlie and Nora have been through a lot growing up in their lives. They seem to always put everyone first before their own happiness. They always want to make sure that everyone else is good even if they have to give up their own dreams and happiness. It’s a lot that Nora still deals with from the passing of her mom but doesn’t share with anyone until she meets Charlie.

I like how Nora has standards and that when she sees what she wants she opens up and tells Charlie instead of playing the little game of keeping it to herself. It can be scary taking chances, but the saying goes, closed mouths don’t get fed. Libby, who is Nora’s sister, has her own agenda that Nora does not know about. Nora just thinks Libby is going through problems in her relationship. What her sister is really doing will shock you. Sometimes a small town has hidden places that can make you fall in love with it.

I love that Nora and Charlie can talk about any and everything and feel like they can be themselves with each other. Charlie sees that Nora is everything he ever wanted and more. They have to make a decision once her vacation is over and she has to go back home to New York. Can you really have everything you really wanted? The job, the man, the city life and more. It all goes back to taking chances and not settling. You have to read the book to see what happens. I love “Love” I believe when you find it don’t let it go. True love is hard to find these days. I love to read books and I hope to find a partner that is into books like I am. It would be awesome to chat about books and other things.

  • What Looks like crazy on an Ordinary Day

Book: What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day

    Author: Pearl Cleage

    By: Cece Hymes

This is the second book I have read by this author. Both books are really good. This book was about a lady named Ava Johnson who was from Michigan but had moved to Atlanta to start her career and make money. She made good doing hair. Now as we all know Atlanta is full of parties, celebrities and having a great time. Some years later she is doing great and finds out she is H.I.V Positive, she wants to do right and tell all the guys she ever slept with in the last couple of years to get checked. She mailed all of them letters and one of their girlfriends came to her place of work and went off.

Ava decided to go stay with her sister in Michigan for some months before she goes to San Francisco. She goes back to her hometown and sees it different than what it used to be. It’s a lot of young ladies pregnant, a lot of young people on drugs and seeing that the town went down. Her sister helps out with the youth and tries to educate them in life.

There was a baby born but the mom was on drugs, the mother’s family was on drugs also, so Ava’s sister decided to take care of the baby. Try to give her love and the best home for the baby. Ava sees an old friend and they get close. They share their past and life experiences. They accept each other for who they are. They all become close and try to help the community. It’s a pastor and his wife in the neighborhood that are not great pastors that try to do bad things to Ava and her sister.

So much transparent between the community, a lot of robbing, the older folks being scared, The young people on drugs being evil doing things they had no business doing. The pastor’s wife does something bad and gets the baby to go back to the family who really do not want the child but are doing it for the money. They hurt the child and ran. It’s sad what people do when they are on drugs. It’s sad how the mindsets are of people in today’s society. I like that Ava is honest about what she has and doesn’t want to put others in danger.

As I read this book, I feel sad for everyone in the book even though good things happen. It’s like the real world, you have to be safe, anything can happen. As women we need to learn self-defense, safe sex, and more. I have a women’s group that I will be working on adding these kinds of classes for us to take.

  • My Summer Darlings book by May Cobb

    Book: My Summer Darlings

    Author: May Cobb

This was the first book I have read by this author and when I say I stayed up all night to finish this book whewwww. I wanted to see what was going to happen next. I finished this book in one day. I am tired this morning, but this was worth it. This book was about 3 women Jen, Kittie and Cynthia who had been friends since childhood. They are all adults now with their own kids. It’s a small town and they all live in the same neighborhood. Now Jen has been through a lot and has gone through a divorce she is a stay-at-home mom looking to get her life back together and find love. Kittie likes to be the center of attention and her daughter is giving her a hard time in life. Now Cynthia is the laid-back friend but she is trying to find out what she really likes and her passion. Her therapist told her to get a journal and write about it.

Then it’s a new man in town, all the women think he is charming and they want to know about this mystery man that just moved in town. Jen has her eyes on him and wants to shoot her shot. All her friends are telling her to go for it. So, Jen finally gets a chance to meet Will and she is over the hill for him. Will ends up growing close to all three women and more and they all have an obsession with him. He breaks up friendships, families and more. As they try to figure out why he is not as close to them and want to just stop by his house whenever they want to get answers. You never know what you may hear or see coming to his house unexpectedly.

Out of all three women Cynthia got the most attached and took it to another level. They find out what kind of man Will really is and is in for a rude awakening.

With that being said, get to know people, ask questions and do research. You never know what kind of person you are dealing with. Real friends wouldn’t do the things that these friends have done. Also go with your first instincts. All these women felt like it was something off about this man but still looked over it. In today’s world a lot of relationships are like that. We see things we just look over it or just settle with it. Make sure to at least let someone know where you are going at all times.

    Interview with Yokane

    By: Where It Begins

    Q. What is the story behind street dreams?

    A. My story behind street dreams is that I got together with some talented people. We just vibe, we were on the same frequency at the time. We try to base it on honesty and feeling at the time. Just genuine music, it changes from time to time. I am not in the box. In the future, you are going to see me doing other things.

    Q. How do you feel about being in the box?

    A. I think we limit ourselves when you are in the box. It comes with rules and regulations. You want to go outside of boundaries from failure or being judged. When you are in a job you are limiting sonically, limited creativity. I have been in a box where I was limited, I really wasn’t expressing myself on the fear of critique.

    Q. What motivated you to be an artist?

    A. It was in me so I would say it was my purpose. I tell people whatever you like to do that is your purpose; that’s what you are supposed to do. I think I was born an artist. When I was young listening to hip hop records, the expression is that we all like music, but everyone cannot express themselves. If you have written poetry, it can be music. Free expression gets into circumstances at the time.

    Q. Tell us about your YouTube show called “Fux News Cast and how did you come up with the name?

    A. It’s like a play on the news. It’s like a play on fox when in the environment someone might have thrown it in the air. It’s a play on fox that has character names that’s crazy like Monie Coughman, Mona Lott, Anita Cox, Richard “Dick” Holder, Silky Watkins, and Craven Moorehead. Its meteorologist, sports, anchors, Latinos are very sensual urban cartoons. We got features there, which are silly, mature, and make you feel good.

  • The Treston Irby story “Hiatus” Life in the 90s R&B Group Hi-Five

Book: The Treston Irby story “HIATUS” Life in the 90s R&B Group Hi-Five

    Author: Treston Irby

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was about Treston Irby’s life. He talks about his life growing up and how he ends up being in the group Hi-Five. His life was a journey he had been through a lot of things growing up into an adult and artist. He talks about how the group broke up and the different stages he went through. The pain, the hustle and the grind.

Everyone has a testimony or story. His story is what celebrities and people in the entertainment world go through. I was glad he was real and told his truth on everything. Sometimes it’s good to get your story out. You may help others that get into the entertainment world.

I can’t wait to read part two of the book and see what’s next. Glad that he continues to still perform as Hi-Five. Also, prayers to the ones that ha” I can’t wait another minute” & “She’s playing hard to get” was some of my favorites.

The 90’s groups and music are classics now. I love R&B music and I hope they continue to make good music now that they’re older and still performing.

  • The Psychology of Money Book by Morgan Housel

    Book: The Psychology of Money

    Author: Morgan Housel

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was a book that teaches you timeless lessons on wealth, greed and happiness. It gives you examples of thinking. Instead of thinking to be rich, think to be wealthy.  It teaches you about money, investing, personal and business finances.

When I read this book, I got to thinking like someone can say I am broke but spend 10 dollars a day on the lottery on a chance of winning between 1 out of billions of people. Instead of thinking like that when you can spend 10 in stock or just 10 a month on life insurance. It also makes you think about how people can be broke or say they broke but spend 200 dollars on Jordans but not 200 in marketing for their business. We have people that will spend 1000 dollars on a meet & greet with celebrities or concerts V.I.P. but will not spend 1000 on great motives.

This book opens your eyes to think about spending wisely. Us as people are taught wrong and our priorities are not right. So, I wrote down a list of things I am going to work on and also need to change my way of thinking.
