  • Book Blog: Bitter and Sweet by Rhonda McKnight

    Blog Written by Cece Hymes

    Hello, book lovers!

I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on Bitter and Sweet by Rhonda McKnight. This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and I was so excited to dive into it, especially after attending her book signing. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

The story centers around two sisters, Mariah and Sabrina, who seem to embody the title perfectly—one is bitter, and one is sweet. Despite their differences and the years they’ve spent apart, they find themselves back home, helping their grandparents with their restaurant. Through this, they discover their unique talents and begin to heal old wounds.

Mariah is grappling with bitterness from past hurts and is finally seeking the help she needs. I appreciate how the book highlights the importance of therapy—something many people shy away from but can be incredibly beneficial. Mariah’s skills in business and marketing shine through as she helps with the restaurant’s success.

On the other hand, Sabrina is dealing with her own life struggles, living in her van and ensuring her daughter is well taken care of. Her talents in baking and cooking bring a special touch to the restaurant. Despite their struggles, the sisters gradually open up to each other, rebuilding their bond and becoming close once again.

A particularly beautiful aspect of the book is the discovery of their great-great-grandmother’s letters. These letters reveal the tragedies and struggles she endured, creating a connection between the past and present that both sisters can relate to. I loved how this historical element added depth to the story, blending seamlessly with the narrative.

Attending the book signing was a fantastic experience, and I even got my own mason jar from the author! Reading the book beforehand made this little token even more meaningful.

Rhonda McKnight has a unique talent for weaving history, food, and personal growth into her stories. The town’s history and the family’s legacy add richness to the plot, making it a truly engaging read.

Bitter and Sweet is a heartwarming story about family, forgiveness, and finding one’s place in the world. I can’t wait to read more books by Rhonda McKnight. If you haven’t picked up this book yet, I highly recommend it!

    Happy reading!

  • Book Blog: For the Love of Summer by Susan Mallery

    Blog Written by Cece Hymes

    Hello readers,

I’m excited to share my thoughts on For the Love of Summer by Susan Mallery. This book captivated me with its powerful message about friendship, love, and resilience.

The story revolves around two women who come together through their shared experiences with a man who wronged them both. I was particularly drawn to Erica, a strong and outspoken character with a heart of gold. Despite her fears of love due to past hurts, she learns valuable lessons about trust and friendship. Allison, on the other hand, struggles but bravely opens up to seek help and becomes less judgmental as the story progresses.

One of the most touching aspects of the book is the character Summer. She exemplifies strength and maturity, wanting to do right by her brother and stepmother. Her actions bring everyone together, proving that even a teenager can make a significant impact on the lives of adults.

For the Love of Summer teaches us about the power of friendship and the importance of making our own judgments rather than listening to others. It’s a reminder that we should be open to help when needed and that true friendship can come in unexpected ways.

As women, we must support and empower each other instead of tearing each other down. This book beautifully illustrates how women can stand together and form strong bonds despite their differences. It also emphasizes the importance of independence and having your own resources, ensuring you have something to fall back on in challenging times.

Overall, For the Love of Summer is a great read filled with lessons about love, friendship, and personal growth. I can’t wait to dive into more books by Susan Mallery.

    Happy reading!

    Blog Written by Cece Hymes

    Hey book lovers,

Today, I want to share my thoughts on a book that truly touched my heart: A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole. This story is beautifully written, bittersweet, and incredibly inspiring.

From the moment I started reading, I was captivated by the sweet and profound love story of Poppy and Rune. Their journey together is a testament to the power of love and resilience. Poppy, though young, embodies strength and courage in the face of adversity. Rune, with his unwavering devotion, brings out the beauty of finding a soulmate who can make the darkest days a little brighter.

This book opened my eyes to the importance of living life with positivity, freedom, and happiness. Life is too short to be consumed by anger and sadness. Through Poppy and Rune’s adventures, I was reminded that true love and peace are attainable, even amidst life’s challenges.

Reading A Thousand Boy Kisses made me reflect on my own life. It encouraged me to embrace my own adventures and learn from every experience. Despite the tears and moments of sadness, this book left me feeling uplifted and inspired.
