  • ✨Cece in the City: Night Lights, Books, and Holiday Vibes βœ¨

Hey everyone! Finally, we’re getting some really nice weather this week, and it feels like the city is waking up from a long nap. There’s something so refreshing about stepping outside when the sun hits just right, the air has that crisp sparkle, and everything feels alive again. And you have to hear the best newsβ€”the Night Lights at the Botanical Garden are back!

If you’ve never been, let me paint you a picture: the garden transforms into a luminous wonderland, with sparkling lights reflecting off every leaf, pathway, and fountain. The displays are absolutely breathtakingβ€”like walking through a dream where the trees themselves are dressed in glittering gowns. Did you know that botanical gardens have been around for centuries, originally created to study and showcase exotic plants from around the world? It’s amazing to think that while we stroll under these modern lights, gardens like these carry a long history of curiosity, learning, and beauty. Every turn has a new surprise, and I found myself stopping multiple times just to take it all in. My advice? Go when it’s just the right temperatureβ€” Not too cold, and the magic gets a little nipped by the wind, but just right, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into another world. 🌟

Speaking of stepping into new worlds, I just finished an incredible read: The Interruption of Everything by Terry McMillan. I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. McMillan is a powerhouse in American literature, known for writing stories that celebrate women’s lives while highlighting the challenges we face. This novel tells the story of a woman juggling family, career, and personal growthβ€”the kind of story that feels like it’s speaking directly to us as women. So often, we’re the ones holding everything together, sacrificing our dreams, and making sure everyone else is taken care of. And yet, sometimes it feels like our work goes unnoticed, our sacrifices unappreciated. McMillan’s story is a reminder that while we nurture and care for others, it’s just as important to nurture ourselves.

This book made me pause, reflect, and appreciate not only the work we do but the lives we lead. If you want a read that’s honest, relatable, and deeply moving, you can grab your copy πŸ“–

Now, let’s shift gears to some Cece on the Scenes updates! I recently watched Frankenstein, and let me tell youβ€”it was fantastic. I’d rate it a 4 out of 5. Did you know that Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein when she was just 18 years old? The story was inspired by a famous 1816 β€œghost story challenge” she did while staying in Switzerland with Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron. The novel has endured for over 200 years because it taps into timeless questions about ambition, humanity, and what it means to create life. Watching this adaptation reminded me of why classic stories endureβ€”the suspense, the drama, and the exploration of what it means to be human.

I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something engaging and thought-provoking to watch this week. 🎬

And of course, don’t forget about my own creative work! My poetry book is out now, and it’s perfect for cozy evenings, reflective moments, or even as a holiday gift for someone you love. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, you can grab it here✨

Have you been keeping up with Candlelight Conversations with Cece? If not, you’re missing out! These sessions are all about slowing down, reflecting, and connecting with your inner thoughts. You can catch them on YouTube and Spotify, and I’ve also curated August & September playlists to match the themes of each conversation. They’re perfect for journaling, relaxing, or just creating a little calm in your day. Speaking of journaling, I’ve been posting daily journal writing prompts for all my journal loversβ€”don’t miss out on this little dose of inspiration every day! πŸ•―οΈ

And now, as we slowly drift toward the holidays, I want to take a moment to reflect. This season is more than just decorations and presentsβ€”it’s about gratitude, giving, and truly appreciating the people around us. Fun fact: the tradition of giving thanks and celebrating during this season can be traced back to harvest festivals in Europe, long before modern Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions were formalized. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and recognize the abundance in our lives. What are your holiday plans this year? Are you planning cozy nights at home, festive gatherings, or maybe a quiet walk under twinkling lights like the ones at the Botanical Garden? Whatever you do, remember to give thanks, give love, and give back. This is the season to celebrate the little things, the people who matter, and the moments that make life feel magical.

So whether you’re catching the glow of the night lights, diving into a great book, watching a classic film, writing in your journal, or listening to Candlelight Conversations with Cece, make sure to pause, breathe, and savor these moments. Because in the end, it’s not just about what we doβ€”it’s about what we feel, what we share, and how we connect.

Stay magical, stay inspired, and as alwaysβ€”see you on the scenes. πŸ’–

  • Cece in the City: Exploring Atlanta’s Hidden Gems

Happy Sunday, friends! 🌞 Let’s talk about a few of my Cece in the City adventures that make Atlanta one of the most vibrant and fun places to explore.

    1. The BeltLine – If you haven’t been, the BeltLine is a whole vibe. From food spots to street performers, it’s where cultures mix and creativity flows. Whether you’re biking, walking, or just people-watching, there’s always something happening.
    1. Krog Street Tunnel – This isn’t just a tunnel, it’s a living canvas. Every time I go, the art is different, bold, and full of energy. It’s like stepping into Atlanta’s heartbeatβ€”raw, colorful, and ever-changing.
    1. Hop β€˜N Go Tours – Talk about fun! This rolling adventure takes you around Atlanta while serving up history and laughs. I learned things about the city I never knew, all while riding in style. Definitely a must-do if you want to play tourist for a day.
    1. The Botanical Gardens – Flowers, sculptures, and serenity all in one. I’ve been to both the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the one in Gainesville. Atlanta’s is larger and full of surprises (especially during the holiday lights ✨), while Gainesville’s has its own charm and peaceful vibes. Both are worth it!
    1. Mercedes-Benz Stadium – It’s football season, y’all! 🏈 From the skybox to the regular seats, this stadium is an experience no matter where you sit. The energy is electric, the food is surprisingly affordable, and it’s a piece of Atlanta history in the making.

Atlanta never runs out of gems to explore, and I’m just getting started. Stay tunedβ€”more Cece in the City adventures are on the way! πŸ’«

  • 🌸 Nature, New Bites & A Much-Needed Reset in Gainesville, GA πŸŒΈ

Yesterday, I had one of those soul-soothing days that you don’t even realize you need until you’re deep in it. I packed up my thoughts, my neck fan (my summer BFF!), and hung out with a friend for a little escape to the Atlanta Botanical Garden – Gainesville.

Now listen, don’t let the word β€œGainesville” fool you. While it’s smaller than the bustling Atlanta location, it carries its own charm, character, and calm. Nestled in the heart of North Georgia, this garden is actually an extension of the original Atlanta Botanical Garden and opened in 2015. Fun fact: it was built on land once home to a grand estate, and today it’s a blooming retreat filled with curated trails, colorful floral displays, and all the serenity your spirit can handle.

We got there earlyβ€”before the sun had fully clocked in for the day. It was warm, high 80s, but not melt-into-the-ground hot, thank goodness. My trusty neck fan came through like always! As we wandered through rose-lined paths and beneath shady trees, I felt the stress I’d been carrying slowly fade into the breeze. There’s just something about being surrounded by nature, hearing the birds sing their morning songs, and exchanging good convo with a friendβ€”it’s therapy without the co-pay.

The people were so friendly too! Everyone seemed to be on the same wavelengthβ€”just out there soaking in the beauty, smiling, and vibing with the Earth. Pure peace.

But you know me… the day wasn’t complete without a little foodie adventure. We ended up at a local gem called The Cream in Duluth β€”and babyyyy, let me tell you! I stepped way out of my comfort zone and tried octopus fritters. Yes, you read that right. OCTOPUS. And guess what? They were πŸ”₯. Golden, crispy, and surprisingly delicious. The texture? Perfect. The flavor? On point. Sometimes, your taste buds just need a passport and a little courage!

Moral of the story: Don’t let the name scare youβ€”just taste it. You might surprise yourself.

By the time I got home, I was worn out in the best way. Tired body, full heart. That little Gainesville getaway reminded me how healing nature, connection, and good food can be.

If you’re ever in North Georgia, carve out a few hours for the Botanical Garden in Gainesville and end it with a bold food move. You won’t regret it. πŸ’š

  • Exploring Georgia: A Journey Through History, Culture, and Hidden Gems

Welcome to the first stop on my journey to visit all 50 states and beyond! Since Georgia is home, it’s only right to kick off this adventure in the Peach State, a place rich in history, culture, and must-visit spots. Whether you’re a local or a traveler passing through, these are some gems that should be on your list.

    1. Six Feet Under

Perched with a beautiful rooftop view, Six Feet Under is a seafood restaurant that offers not only great food but also a fantastic atmosphere. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail while overlooking the city or indulging in some fresh seafood, this spot is a must for any foodie exploring Atlanta.

    2. Atlanta Botanical Garden

A true urban oasis, the Atlanta Botanical Garden transforms with the seasons, offering stunning themes throughout the year. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting during their Trolls, Alice in Wonderland, and Garden Lights exhibitsβ€”all breathtaking in their own way. If you love nature and art blended into one, this is a must-see.

    3. The World of Coca-Cola

A paradise for soda lovers, this interactive museum lets you dive into the history of one of the world’s most iconic beverages. The highlight? Sampling flavors from around the worldβ€”some delightful, some… let’s just say, an acquired taste. A perfect stop for tourists and families!

    4. Stone Mountain Park

Steeped in history, Stone Mountain Park offers hiking, breathtaking views, and year-round events. Reaching the top is a rewarding challenge, and the panoramic scenery is worth every step. The park also hosts light shows, festivals, and historic exhibits, making it a cultural gem in Georgia.

    5. Blue Ridge Mountain Cabins

For a peaceful getaway, Blue Ridge cabins are a must. Nestled in the mountains, these cozy retreats offer hot tubs, pool tables, and plenty of space for a group escape. Whether you’re here for hiking, relaxing, or just soaking in the mountain air, this is the ultimate retreat.

    Bonus – Buc-ee’s

A gas station might not seem like a must-see, but Buc-ee’s is more than thatβ€”it’s an experience. Imagine a mini-Walmart meets a gourmet snack shop, all wrapped in a super-clean, super-sized store. If you’re on a road trip through Georgia, a Buc-ee’s stop is essential.

Book Highlight: Leaving Atlanta by Tayari Jones

A gripping novel set against the backdrop of the real-life Atlanta child murders of the late 1970s, Leaving Atlanta follows three children as they navigate growing up amidst fear and uncertainty. Tayari Jones paints a powerful and emotional picture of resilience and childhood innocence lost.

  • Holiday Magic at Atlanta Botanical Garden: Our First Light Show Adventure!

Hey readers! This holiday season, we finally got to experience the Atlanta Botanical Garden: Garden Lightsβ€”and let me tell you, it was nothing short of magical! Imagine Christmas lights that don’t just sparkle but come alive in a stunning show. It felt like stepping into a festive wonderland!

I went with my family, and we lucked out with perfect weather. A night in the 60s meant we could stroll through the glowing garden without freezingβ€”ideal for soaking in the beauty. While I skipped the hot chocolate (shocking, I know), we couldn’t resist the s’mores! They gave us cute little s’mores kits, and we roasted marshmallows over the fire. There’s something about gooey marshmallows under twinkling lights that makes the holidays even sweeter.

After ten years in Atlanta, I can’t believe this was my first visit to Garden Lights! Watching the Christmas trees dance in lights and nature illuminated in breathtaking ways was a feast for the eyes. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favorβ€”grab your loved ones and check it out before it’s over. Trust me, it’s a sight you’ll remember for seasons to come!
