    Title: First

    By: Cece Hymes

    First things first
    We put ourselves first
    Once you learn this step
    We get what we deserve
    And nothing less

    Happiness and joy
    Love and peace
    Thats what we need
    And what to believe

    I want you first
    To open your eyes
    Tell me what you see
    And whats your dream

    This is your year
    I want you to see
You can do anything that you want
    If you just believe

    But first thing first
    You got to start
    Remember everything
    Starts with you
    So just pursue

    This is my first poem
For the year and this is
    Just for you

  • Atlantucky 1-year Anniversary (Nappy Roots)

Nappy Roots 1-year Anniversary at Atlantucky Brewing

    Where: Atlanta, GA

    By: Cece Hymes

I had a chance to go and support the Nappy Roots on their one-year anniversary for opening up their Brewing called Atlantucky.  Let’s talk a little about Atlantucky. It is a Black-owned brewer in the heart of Atlanta owned by the Nappy Roots. Nappy Roots came out of Kentucky and they put Atlanta and Kentucky together to make Atlantucky. Fish Scales and Skinny DeVille learned about beer and opened their own Brewing.

Every time I go there it has positive vibes and a mixed crowd. I love what they are doing and are still making great music. It is their 1-year anniversary, and they have some special performances to celebrate with them. I got a chance to see Pastor Troy, Fabo and Backbone from the Dungeon Family perform. All the members of Nappy Roots were in the building showing love to everyone.

If you haven’t checked out their spot make sure to check it out. Also, if you love a good beer they have different kinds and are steadily making new flavors for you to try. If you want to have an event, they also rent out one side of the building for events.

So proud of the Nappy Roots and hope they continue to be great and keep pushing out great music. Happy Nappy Anniversary and hope they have many many more.  They also have Art shows, Writer room, Game night and many more other things there. Make sure to follow them to keep up with the new beers, music and events.

  • Denzel & Paulette Washington

    Denzel Washington & Paulette Washington

    By: Cece Hymes

This is the month of love and we definitely got to give our roses to Denzel & Paulette Washington. They have been together 39 years or more. Every relationship has its ups and downs but being able to get through it together is a plus.

I love this couple. Did you know they first met on the set of the 1977 TV movie Wilma? Every interview I have seen they speak of each other’s greatness, and you can still see that spark between the two. Here is some of the quotes Denzel shared with us:

    ·         “The Secret To A Happy Marriage? Do Whatever Your Wife Tells You. Yes, Dear.’ And Breathe”

    ·         “A Spiritual Foundation Helps Everything, Marriage, Work, & Peace of Mind”

This month I wanted to shout out to this couple and give them their roses and to tell them to have many many more. Thanks for showing us how a couple can manage in this industry.  It’s always good to be good friends first. They built a family and every step of the way they were each other’s number 1 fan.

I love to see couples that are still making it. I love “LOVE”. What is something you would love to share about this couple? Also follow me @Cece.Atl.

  • Richard Pryor (Great Memories)

    Richard Pryor

    By: Cece Hymes

Richard Pryor was a stand-up comedian and actor. He was so funny. He won a Primetime Emmy Award and five Grammy Awards. He also received the first Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Some of his films that he played in are:

    ·         Me, Myself & Irene

    ·         Lost Highway

    ·         Mad Dog Time

    ·         Another You

    ·         Harlem Night

    ·         See No Evil, Hear No Evil

    ·         Bustin Loose

He has acted in so many more films. He was a lot of people’s idols. Pryor has a statue in Illinois so if you are ever in that area make sure to check it out. He also has a book out so If you haven’t checked it out make sure to read and let me know what you think of it. Some of my favorite quotes by him are:

    ·         “Marriage is really tough because you have to deal with feelings… and lawyers”

    ·         “There’s a thin line between to laugh with and to laugh at”

    ·         “I never met anybody who said when they were a kid, I wanna grow up and be a critic”

He was a great comedian. Another great legend that turned to drugs and alcohol to fight his demons. I pray for everyone that’s going through things. Richard Pryor left us some great laughter and films. I will never forget him in Harlem Nights, which was one of my favorite films with him in it. What was your most memorable moment with Richard Pryor? What was your favorite film with him?

Nichelle Nichols was an actress, singer, and dancer best known for her portrayal of Nyota Uhura in Star Trek and its film sequels. She loved attending conventions and meeting her fans. She inspired a lot of people by opening doors for them, removing barriers and cherishing her family, friends and fans. Here are some of the films she was in:

    ·         The white Orchid

    ·         Star Trek Beyond

    ·         Scooby Doo

    ·         Tru Loved

    ·         Are We There Yet?

    ·         Snow Dogs

Nichelle Nichols had a children’s book that was really inspiring. Everyone loved Star Trek and she played her role. Here are some of my favorite quotes by her:

    ·         “I was very blessed in always knowing what I wanted to do, and by the grace of God, I’ve been able to succeed in my chosen career”

    ·         “Space Travel benefits us here on Earth. And we aint stopped yet. There’s more exploration to come”

  • Jesse Powell (Great Memories)

    Jesse Powell

    By: Cece Hymes

Jesse Powell was an R&B and soul singer and songwriter. He was known for one of my favorite hits “You”. Everyone loved that song. Jesse was credited with a four-octave vocal range. He was A Grammy nominee. Here are some of his songs:

    ·         You

    ·         I will be loving you

    ·         If I

    ·         I wasn’t with it

    ·         She wasn’t Last night

    ·         All I Need

    ·         Is it Over

    ·         Spend the Night

Jesse’s songs always seem to be on billboards. He had that voice, he kind of reminds you of a Tevin Campbell. It was so sad when I heard he passed away at a young age. I loved his music. I have been praying for everyone. We have had a lot of deaths in the last couple of years. We never know what people are going through. Jesse will forever be around us through his music.

What was your favorite song by Jesse Powell? What was the most memorable moment you’ve had of him? Make sure to follow me @Cece.Atl

  • Leading Men of Film and Television in Atlanta GA

Event: Leading Men of Film and Television

    Where: Atlanta GA

    By: Cece Hymes

I had a chance to go to this event hosted by Michelle Taylor Willis. I love getting out and networking in Atlanta, GA. There are so many things to do here. I got a chance to meet Tray Chaney who was on Saints and Sinners. I also got a chance to meet Julian Brittano who has been in a couple of films. I interviewed him and learned a little more about his journey. Make sure to check it out.  They had Kevin Savage and Rico Ball seen on #BET. They shared a lot of knowledge on the panel.

All these great men have been on the Wire and Saints and sinners. I know everyone has watched those shows. Julian was on Greenleaf when I interviewed him, he talked about his experience on that show. Here at this event, they share their personal experiences and knowledge to motivate and inspire those who are truly serious about getting into the industry.

Atlanta is the next Black Hollywood and there are so many movies and films being made here in Atlanta. I might need to get into film lol. I enjoyed this event and was glad to be invited out. I give all those men their roses today. They were sharp and shared a lot of information. Make sure to check them out and also follow me @Cece.Atl.

  • The Pancakes & Booze Art Show (Atlanta GA)

The Pancakes & Booze Art Show

    Where: Atlanta GA

    By: Cece Hymes

I got a chance to go check out The Pancakes & Booze Art Show with the ladies of W.S.S (Woman Stand Strong). It was different and cool. It is one of the largest pop-up live music & arts movements here in Atlanta. They do have this and go to different states. This was their 10th year serving free pancaking and introducing some great talent in art.

If you have Art that you want to present, you can submit your Artwork and be a part of their Pop-up. The directions on the GPS made it hard to find. I would recommend they put a sign outside or something. We had a hard time finding it. I really enjoyed the different drawings. I did not get a chance to try out the pancakes.

If you are an upcoming artist and want to strut your stuff, check them out. I have been wanting to check them out for a long time. I said 2023 I have to get out more and explore more of Atlanta Ga and what they have to offer.

Make sure to stay tuned and follow my journey @Cece.Atl  or @Cece.atlbucketlist
