  • When You Look Like Us (Book)

Book: When You Look Like Us

    By: Pamela N Harris

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was about a girl named Nikki who goes missing and her brother Jay tries to find her. Nikki and Jay grew up together, their Dad passed away and Mom went to prison so their grandmother had to raise them. They stayed in the projects and tried to make sure they survived.

Jay is a smart kid who got great grades and was trying to make extra money to save up for his grandmother. He would do people’s homework for them and get a job to make extra money. He went to church and one of the girls there always tried talking to him, but he never really looked at her, just seemed annoyed. Nikki was a good kid that started hanging with the wrong crowd. She ended up getting a boyfriend who hustled. Then they get into it at a party, and she goes missing. Nikki also has a friend named Kenny who goes missing the same day.

Nikki called her brother one night and he thought she was drunk and calling. Next thing you know she is missing and Jay and the girl from church try to find clues to find Nikki and hope that she is not dead. They know the type of boyfriend she has and think of the worst. As they put clues together they go through a lot of hurdles and every clue seems to end up with nothing. Jay is at the point of giving up and just really thinking she is dead and starts to push away the friend that really wants the best for him.

In today’s world kids go missing every day and it seems like the cops are no help. Like they do the bare minimum. Jay could get stubborn at times, not letting anyone help him in finding his sister and take matters in his own hands. It’s like he is the one that takes care of everyone and makes sure they are good.

Now Riley was the girl from church that I told you about earlier, now I loved her in this book. It was like she was a good girl but wanted to really be there for Jay. She saw him for who he was and wanted to help his family. She did things just to try to save them. She was very selfless, caring, and funny. Good people like that are hard to find these days.

I don’t want to give up the ending, you have to read it and see. If you have already read the book let me know your thoughts. Also make sure to follow Cece Book Club on IG and Facebook.

  • Interview with Author Elle Spencer

    Interview with Elle Spencer

    By: Where It Begins

    Quote from Elle Spencer

“One of my best experiences happened in 2015 when I signed an official marriage certificate.”

    Q. Tell us more of who Elle Spencer is?

    A. I come from a large, close-knit family. We lived near the Rocky Mountains so my siblings and I spent our youth skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding down whatever hill we could find. It was a great place to grow up, but I prefer a warmer climate now which is a good thing since I live in California. I’ve had all kinds of jobs-massage therapist, frame builder- but nothing that was ever a passion until the writing came along. Now, I’m a full-time writer of lesbian romance. Still hard to believe that’s my job.

    Q. Tell us about the book 30 Dates in 30 Days?

    A. 30 Dates in 30 Days is my third full-length novel. It’s an irreverent humorous (I hope) look at dating when you’re trying to find “The One.” The main character is Veronica, an overworked attorney who’s trying to make partner and be married by the time she’s thirty-five. She’s about to achieve her professional goals, but her love life is pretty much non-existent. Her assistant Bea intervenes and sets Veronica up on blind dates that she’s chosen for her through a dating app. Since Veronica wants to be efficient about everything in her life, Bea suggests 30 dates in 30 days. Of course, chaos ensues because how could that ever go well? I think it’s a fun read, but I’m biased.

    Q. What are some of your other hobbies?

    A. I love to travel. I love to read. I love a good Netflix binge. Since my wife and I bought a home last year, most of my spare time is spent on home improvement projects. Browsing in Home Depot is my new hobby, or lowes, or Ikea. You get the picture.

    Q. What advice can you give to other authors?

    A. If you think you have a compelling story to tell, then get it out there. I think that’s especially important where voices are underrepresented. So, in my case, that’s LGBTQ, but the same is true for people of color and people of different socio-economic or cultural backgrounds. It’s so important that we all get our stories out there whether it’s romances, suspense thrillers, mysteries or any other genre. The more the better.

  • Self Made Boss Book by Jackie Reses & Lauren Weinberg

    Book: Self-Made Boss

Author: Jackie Reses & Lauren Weinberg

    By: Cece Hymes

This Book was for small businesses. It shows you what you need to do to start a small business. It talks about business plans, LLC’s, marketing and more. It had different stories of how people started their business and succeeded in life.

This book had great tips for businesses. As I was reading, I took plenty of notes. Some things I already knew but refreshing my mind was what I needed. I love hearing people’s journeys and testimonies. It gives me the position to keep pushing and some things that stand out that I need to research that I have missed in starting my business.

If you are thinking of starting a business or just getting started this is the right book for you.

  • American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

    Book: American Dirt

    Author: Jeanine Cummins

    By: Cece Hymes

American Dirt—Now what can I say about this book. It was a good read. I learned about immigrants and how they travel to come to the United States. Reading this book and knowing what the Cartels can do to you. Being on the run to try to protect family and people you love. How you have to be strong in each way to try to survive.

Lydia & Luca bond and braveness to survival teached and showed me how you have to be strong in the world. They were forced to leave everything behind to survive. They go through a lot of trials and bad things travelling and learning that you can’t trust everyone.

Lydia believed and, in this book, I believed that her husband was with her the whole time.  The journey and experiences were heartbreaking. Hated what the cartels can do to a person. Lucas was so strong to be just 8 years old. Lucas stood up for himself and others that he cared about.

Immigrants and what they have to do to try to come over to the States is a lot. Just thinking of violence, rape, hunger, being dehydrated and no money just to try to survive. Having to sleep with one eye open. How people can take advantage of someone without a care in the world.

This book definitely opened my eyes to want to do more in the community and do more for people in need if I can.

Check out this book and let me know your thoughts and how you felt? Have you ever been in a situation like this? Share with us. We would like to hear about it.

  • The Moment We Met by Camille Baker

    Book: The Moment We Met

    Author: Camille Baker

    By: Cece Hymes

This has been the second book I have read by this author, and this was a great read. This book was about an app that was transferred to Tiwanda phone called “Met”. The app will tell you 4 people will come into your life and be your soulmate. Tiwanda does not do well with relationships and makes up excuses on why she does not date. It’s her thirtieth birthday and she hates her job. She wants to start her own business. She gets a business opportunity to get money from a nonprofit business. She got accepted into the program and you get more money if you go to the next level. Tiwanda quit her job right on time so that she can concentrate on her own business.

During the next couple of months, she will also meet 4 people that potentially will be her soul mate. She has mixed emotions about it but each one of the people she meets come in her life at different times that she needs it. She finally let her guard down and dated. She also gets a chance to meet and learn about her mom’s side of the family. Tiwanda is learning new things and with destiny on her side, maybe there’s a chance all those dreams that she has will come true as far as business, love and more.

I kind of wished we had an app like that in reality. Also, I love the dedication she had building her business. She motivated me to want to apply for grants and see if my small business will get accepted. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read part three of this book. It’s a great read. Let me know your opinions.

  • Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

    Book: Home Before Dark

    Author: Riley Sager

    By: Cece Hymes

This Book was good. It was about a little girl named Maggie at the time who was about 5 years old and her parents moved into Baneberry Hall. Where this house had a reputation of generation after generation of people dying in the home. It was also connected to a graveyard, but the parents didn’t know too much about the home and the neighborhood. The dad writes a book telling his experience about this haunted house he lives in. The book was pretty good but brought a bad name to the neighborhood and people did not believe the things he said in the book.

Now it’s 25 years later and Maggie is grown up. Her parents don’t like to talk about the book and what went on in that house. Her dad passed away and left her that house in Baneberry Hall that he says is haunted. He tells her to never go in that house. She read the book and wanted to really know what happened in that house. She goes back to the house to see if things will come back, and she can find clarity. This House is called the house of horrors.

As Maggie stays in this house and talks to people, she finds out different information and things each time and each visit in this house. Is this house really haunted or was this all made up. Did the things in the book really happen? This book you must read to see what really happens and see if this house is really haunted by ghosts. Maggie gets all the answers she is looking for but you would never believe what happens to Maggie and what goes on in this Haunted house that is now hers.

Do you believe in ghosts? Do you believe in spirits? Do you like thrillers? Well check this book out and tell me what you think of it.

  • Book: The Wedding Crasher

    Book: The Wedding Crasher

    Author: Mia Sosa

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was good. It had me mixed with all kinds of emotions. Could you just imagine the lady that ended your Wedding becoming a woman that you fall for? I love how honest they were with each other and becoming friends. A lot of people have they guard up trying to wait on true love as others have it as it’s just a part of what you are supposed to do in life.

Reading this book really showed me some things that I do and don’t want to do in a relationship. It had some great points and laughter. Also had a lot of naughty time in there. If you found out the bride was not in love with the groom, would you stop the wedding? In all the books I have read, people pretend to be someone’s girlfriend and they always fall for the person. You can’t pretend to be with people that are worthy to date and you are single.

Overall, this book was worth the read. I love reading love stories with its ups and downs and twists. I have to read all the series for this. The Author did a good job, and I would recommend it. Make me want to go and pretend to be someone’s girlfriend and see how it goes. Like they say love comes when you unexpected it. Check out the book and tell me what you think.

  • Without Merit by Colleen Hoover

    Book: Without Merit

    Author: Colleen Hoover

    By: Cece Hymes

I have really been hooked on this author’s books. This book here I could not put down was about a girl named Merit who has a family that she’s been keeping secrets for years. She has a twin sister that she is not very close to and hasn’t been close to for years. Merit feels like she is the outsider of the family. Merit likes to collect trophies since she doesn’t win much; she looks at these trophies as being a winner. While at an antique shop she sees Sagan. She thinks something special about this guy at first sight.

Throughout the book it shows what family goes through. It also shows that communication goes a long way. Communication is the way to anything these days. People hold onto things for years and things that could have been done differently, looked at differently or solved. If just people open up their mouths and talk.

I have been learning to open up more. It’s not good to keep everything in. This book will make you like WOW. Merit gets fed up with holding all these things inside of her and decides to write to her family and tell them all the secrets that need to get out. Merit makes an escape plan to get out and for everyone to not have Merit anymore but her plan does not go as planned. Merit and family are going through a lot will they all ever come together.

  • The Girl With Stars In Her Eyes by XIO Axelrod

Book: The Girl With Stars In Her Eyes

    Author: XIO Axelrod

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was about a girl name Antonia “Toni” Bennette who mother was a singer and when she was a little girl her mom sent her off to be with her dad one, she never even met in her life. As she gets shipped off, she meets another kid name Sebastian quick.

Sebastian was a kid that loved his guitar and music. He had a rough time living with his dad and was glad to meet Antonia. They became best friends. The entire time Antonia always had the biggest crush on Sebastian.

As they grew older, they saved money together and everything until one day Sebastian just took his share and left. Antonia was so heart broken and mad that he would do that to her. As they grew up, they both stayed in the business 8 years later they bumped into each other, but Antonia still was pissed with him. Antonia, making a name for herself went to audition for a group the Lilly’s.

The Lilly’s is a band that is looking for someone temporarily while the main group leader gets herself together from the fast life. Antonia, who calls herself Toni, can handle the pressure. Toni is used to performing in small places and doesn’t want the celebrity scene. As she gets into this group, she learns a lot and she and Sebastian open up to each other more and more like old times. Toni finds a friendship with the Lilly’s but keep in mind that it’s only temporary.

The group practices for a big show that is coming up and when the show happens that they practiced for a lot of craziness goes down and Toni saves the moment.

I love how this book shows real love. How it’s good to be friends first before a relationship. This book also shows what bands and people in the entertainment world go through. Things are bad, good, a lot with contracts if you don’t read and more.

I love the saying “It isn’t where you came from, it’s where you’re going that counts” never forget that.

If you love a good band and love story this is the book for you.
