Jackie Joyner Kersee is a retired Olympic gold medalist considered one of the all-time greatest female heptathletes, she won three Olympics gold medals.

Did you know she was a starting forward in basketball for UCLA’s women’s squad? Sports Illustrated voted her the greatest female athlete of the 20th century. Jackie Joyner-Kersee is an active philanthropist in children’s education and women’s rights. She is the founder of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, which encourages young people in East St. Louis to pursue athletics and academics.

I love this quote by her:

“There are many women who came before me who didn’t really have the same opportunities that I have had. That’s why I always wanted to be a great ambassador- not only today’s generation-but for the women who really didn’t have a voice but who paved the way for me.”
