    Teena Marie

    Teena Marie was a singer, songwriter, musician, composer, arranger, and producer. She did a lot with Rick James. They had a lot of music together and were great friends. Her success was in R&B and Soul music. She played rhythm guitar, keyboards, and congas. Teena Marie was a three-time Grammy Award Nominee.

    Lenny Kravitz posted one time in a video in which he said that Teena Marie had taken him into her home and helped him when he was struggling early in his career.  Here are some of my favorite songs by her.

  • Sidney Poitier (Great Memories)

    Sidney Poitier

    Sidney Poitier was a Bahamian actor, film director and diplomat. He was the first black actor and first Bahamian to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. He received two competitive Golden Globe Awards, a competitive British Academy of Film and Television Arts award, and a Grammy Award for Best spoken word Album.  Here are some movies he played in:

    Sidney Poitier will always be remembered as someone who broke down Hollywood’s racial barriers. Did you know he lied about his age in order to serve the country during World War II? He also has a book. If you check it out let me know how you like it. I haven’t had a chance to read it. Here are some of his favorite quotes:

  • John Lewis (Great Memories)

    John Lewis was a politician and civil rights activist who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia’s 5th congressional district.  He participated in 1960 Nashville sit-ins, The Freedom Rides, and was the Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

    In sharing his story he hoped that a new generation would be inspired by Run to actively participate in the democratic process and help build a more perfect union here in America.

    Did you know that John Lewis will be featured on a postage stamp. He also has a book called I am John Lewis. I haven’t checked it out yet but if you have let me know how the book was. Here are some of his favorite quotes:

  • Kobe Bryant (Great Memories)

    Kobe Bryant, also known as the “Black Mamba, was a professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA. Kobe played for the Lakers his entire career, winning five NBA championships and being named finals MVP in two of them. Kobe is and will always be a basketball legend. He was the ultimate girl dad.

    Kobe won a lot of Awards being an MVP in basketball. He had a foundation and did a lot for the youth. He wrote poetry and he also wrote a book. Did you know that Kobe is the only player to have two jersey numbers retired by an NBA Franchise?

    It’s been 3 years since Kobe and his daughter Gianna gained their wings. It was very sad. He inspired so many people all around the world. It was a tragic accident and we definitely want to keep our prayers up for his family.  Here are some of my favorite quotes of Kobe:

    If you are ever in California, there is a bronze statue of Kobe and daughter Gianna. Make sure to check it out if you get a chance. Kobe left a big impact on the world. He was the goat in basketball and glad we have so many memories to remember him by. If you are someone who loves basketball, get his books and check him out, he worked very hard to get to where he was. Check out this poem by him.

  • Richard Pryor (Great Memories)

    Richard Pryor was a stand-up comedian and actor. He was so funny. He won a Primetime Emmy Award and five Grammy Awards. He also received the first Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Some of his films that he played in are:

    ·         Me, Myself & Irene

    ·         Lost Highway

    ·         Mad Dog Time

    ·         Another You

    ·         Harlem Night

    ·         See No Evil, Hear No Evil

    ·         Bustin Loose

     

    He has acted in so many more films. He was a lot of people’s idols. Pryor has a statue in Illinois so if you are ever in that area make sure to check it out. He also has a book out so If you haven’t checked it out make sure to read and let me know what you think of it. Some of my favorite quotes by him are:

    ·         “There’s a thin line between to laugh with and to laugh at”

    He was a great comedian. Another great legend that turned to drugs and alcohol to fight his demons. I pray for everyone that’s going through things. Richard Pryor left us some great laughter and films. I will never forget him in Harlem Nights, which was one of my favorite films with him in it.      Aaron Carter was a singer and rapper. He came to fame as a teen pop singer in the late 1990’s. His brother Nick Carter was in the Backstreet Boys. Here are some songs of Aaron Carter:

    Aaron Carter appeared on Dancing with the Stars and in the Broadway Musical Seussical. He touched a lot of people in the pop world. It was so sad to hear about his death at such a young age.     I want everyone to pray for everyone in the world. We are dealing with so much in today’s world. Depression, Addictions, and Mental Health. We as a community have to come together. So, prayers to all the people who have gained their wings. Glad that we were able to hear some of his talent through music that will stick with us for life.

    Nichelle Nichols was an actress, singer, and dancer best known for her portrayal of Nyota Uhura in Star Trek and its film sequels. She loved attending conventions and meeting her fans. She inspired a lot of people by opening doors for them, removing barriers and cherishing her family, friends and fans. Here are some of the films she was in:

    Nichelle Nichols had a children’s book that was really inspiring. Everyone loved Star Trek and she played her role. Here are some of my favorite quotes by her:

  • Jesse Powell (Great Memories)

    Jesse Powell was an R&B and soul singer and songwriter. He was known for one of my favorite hits “You”. Everyone loved that song. Jesse was credited with a four-octave vocal range. He was A Grammy nominee. Here are some of his songs:

    Jesse’s songs always seem to be on billboards. He had that voice, he kind of reminds you of a Tevin Campbell. It was so sad when I heard he passed away at a young age. I loved his music. I have been praying for everyone. We have had a lot of deaths in the last couple of years. We never know what people are going through. Jesse will forever be around us through his music.

  • Minnie Riperton (Great Memories)

    Minnie Riperton

    Minnie Riperton was a singer-songwriter best known for her song “Loving You” and the use of the whistle register. She was known to the media as the “Queen of the Whistle Register”.  Minnie wrote songs with her husband, Richard Rudolph. She was very unique and had an unforgettable voice.     Did you know that Minnie studied music, drama and dance at the city’s Abraham Lincoln Center and later contemplated a career in Opera? Minnie was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Female R&B vocal performance. Minnie was one of the first celebrities to go public about her breast cancer diagnosis.  She shared her story and was a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. She touched so many people all over the world, it was sad when she got sick. Her are some of my favorite quotes by her:

  • Chadwick Boseman (Great Memories)

    Chadwick Boseman

    Chadwick Boseman was an actor and playwright. He acted in so many great films. He received multiple accolades, including two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Critic’s Choice Movie Award and an Academy Award Nomination. It was an honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. He was a really great actor here are some of my favorite films he was in:

    He was a great actor. He played each part very well. Did you know he went to Howard University? When A man can play James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Black Panther then you know that he is amazing at what he does. He inspired so many people all over the world with his work. It was very sad to hear him leave us so young. Wakanda Forever. Here are some of my favorite quotes by him:
