    Pele was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. I had to do a little research on Pele. I didn’t know much about him but once I researched him I was very interested. When he was 16, he had a dream to play for the Brazilian National team. His dream came true. Pele charmed everyone with his brilliance in sport, stopped a war, performed social work around the world. He was one of the greatest players of all time and labelled “The Greatest” By FIFA.

    Did you know Pele was included in the “Time” list of the 100 most important people in the 20th Century? Pele had a statue made in Rio de Janeiro. Pele was the minister in sport and inspired people all over the world. Pele had several autobiographies, starred in documentary films, and composed musical pieces.   • Bernie Mac (Great Memories)

    Bernie Mac was a comedian and actor. He was so funny. I remember watching him do comedy with Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Hughley on Kings of Comedy. If you have not seen that you have to watch, they all are so funny. Bernie Mac hosts the HBO show Midnight Mac.  Here are some of the movies and T.V. shows he was on:

  • Chuck Brown (Great Memories)

    Chuck Brown was a guitarist, bandleader and singer known as “The Godfather of Go-Go.  If you were from the DMV area you know that Chuck Brown got down on the guitar. I am from D.C., and everyone knows when you think of Go-Go your first thought is Chuck Brown. Some of my favorite hits by him are:

    ·         Johnny Mercer’s

    ·         Midnight Sun

    Chuck Brown was a big influence on other Go- Go bands such as the Soul Rebels Brass Band, The Backyard Band, Junk Yard Band, Rare Essence, EU, Trouble Funk and more. You have to definitely check out The Chuck Brown Memorial Park in D.C. It features a memorial wall honoring his life and achievements, as well as a sculpture called “Wind Me Up, Chuck” signifying the “Call and Response” associated with Go-Go music.  Here are some of my favorite quotes by him:

    Chuck Brown was another legend that left us great music. So many memories that we have of great talent. If you are ever in D.C., make sure to check out some of the great things that Chuck Brown has done in the area. We love Go-Go and glad he influenced so many great groups that are still around pushing the music. I remember that people would beat on the trashcans just to make Go-Go music because they didn’t have the instruments and guitars. He influences so many people by the sound. Just turn a regular song into a nice Go- Go beat and be rockin.

    Eartha Kitt was a singer, actress, dancer, comedian, activist, author and songwriter. When I think of Eartha Kitt I always think of Boomerang and her being Catwoman. Did you know she had 6 songs on the top 30 hits? Here are some of her songs:

  • Dorothy Dandridge (Great Memories)

    Dorothy Dandridge was an actress, singer, and dancer. She is the first African American film star to be nominated for the Academy Award for best actress, which was for her performances in Carmen Jones. Did you know that Dorothy was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Porgy and Bess. She was also recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Here are some of the films she was in:

    Dorothy Dandridge also was a singer and was a very beautiful woman. She sang at venues such as the Cotton Club and the Apollo. When she was young her and her sister toured the United States and they were called “The Wonder Children” later they were renamed “The Dandridge Sisters.  Here are some of my favorite quotes by her:

It’s so sad that so many entertainers overdose and have so many addictions, depression and demons. We have lost so many legends. Thankful for great memories and the impact they left with us.  Halle Berry played Dorothy Dandridge and did a wonderful job.

  • Barbara Walters (Great Memories)

    Barbara Walters was an American broadcast journalist and television personality. She was known for her interviewing ability and popularity with viewers. She was a great journalist. She appeared as a host on numerous television programs including Today, the ABC Evening News, 20/20 and The View. Did you know that Barbara  was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame? She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NATAS in 2000 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

    Barbara Walters has a couple of books out so if you are a fan check out her Memoir. It is on my list to read. I can’t wait to learn more about her journey, especially with me being a journalist I can get more tips for my journey. I love reading so can’t wait to dive into this book. Some of my favorite quotes by her are:

    When we talk about Michael Jackson, we talk about a legend that meant so much to the world through his music. Michael Jackson started out young. He and his brothers had the group Jackson 5. I loved the song “Never Can Say Goodbye” , one of my favorites. Michael Jackson was a singer, songwriter, dancer, and philanthropist. He was definitely the “King  of Pop”. Michael Jackson was the king of dancing and he can put on a  great performance. He loved to dance. He came up with dances like moonwalk and the robot. He is the most awarded musician in history.  Some of my favorite songs of his are:

    ·         Thriller

    ·         Wanna Be Startin Somethin’

    ·         Heal the World

    There are so many songs that I can name but those were some of my favorites. Did you know that Michael made an appearance on the United States Negro College Fund’s “Parade of Stars” telethon airing on U.S. television and radio networks, to help raise money to aid 41 historically Black colleges and universities. He also received an award from the UNFC and an honorary doctorate from Fisk University.  Check out some of the books he has and let me know how they are.     When we talk about Prince we talk about a legend that meant so much to the world through his music. Prince was everything: he was a singer, songwriter, musician, producer and more. His style was different and so smooth. Prince sold over 100 million records and some of his awards included Grammy President’s Merit award. The American Music award for Achievement, The Billboard Icon award, Academy award, Golden Globe award, and many more. He was also inducted twice into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. Some of my favorite songs by him are:

    ·         Purple Rain

    ·         When Doves Cry

    ·         The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

    ·         Raspberry Beret

    ·         Little Red Corvette

    ·         Kiss

    ·         I Wanna Be Your Lover

    Prince Movie Purple Rain was a classic that was one of the biggest films that no one could ever forget. The soundtrack for the film was also big. It’s another feeling and zone when you hear “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry”. Prince has a couple of books out. I did get a chance to read two which I learned more about his journey and Life. Did you know Prince first recorded instrumental  titled “The Dawn” a thematic idea that would resurface in his work for decades. The meaning behind “The Dawn” is “A Time of Greater Consciousness and Spiritual Understanding”. Prince was a beast on that guitar.

    Just watching some of his shows and going back he puts on a show. He was a genius when it came to music. He wrote music for so many people  and played instruments like no other. He empowered so many people to own their uniqueness, shaping the more diverse, and accepting you for who you are. It’s so much we can say about Prince but one thing is his music speaks volumes and will forever live within us. Here are some of my favorite quotes by him:

    I can’t forget the Prince Estate; it presents Prince’s life and work. You have to look it up and get a view of what was inside. It’s worth millions. There’s so much to say about Prince and what he meant to us. He touched all of us through his music and he is one that will never be forgotten. We never know what people go through and as I said before let’s pray for one another. We have lost so many legends through addictions, depression, and the demons that live within them that they can’t fight off. Thankful for great memories and the great music he left within us. We have to continue to teach our generation what real music is.

  • Michael K. Williams (Great Memories)

    I had a chance to read Michael Williams’ book “Scenes from My Life” . It was really good. I got to know more about how he grew up and his journey. He was a great actor. Everyone loved him on the HBO drama series “The Wire”. Did you know that he was a dancer before he started acting?  Here are some of the films he played in:

    ·         Snitch

    ·         The Red Sea

    ·         Triple 9

    He also appeared in “Gone Baby Gone” and “12 Years A Slave” that earned him a 2007 NAACP Image award. Music brought him joy. He loves house music. He had a rough life growing up and he turned to drugs to take away some of the pain he had been through. If you are a fan check out his book to learn more about his life and how he got to where he was.  Some of his quotes that I liked are:

    These are some of his Great memories with us watching him in shows and movies. Even though he went through a lot he played his roles. He also did things in the community.     Earl Simmons, known as DMX, was a legend. I got a chance to read his book “E.A.R.L The Autobiography of DMX”. It was a great book, I learned more about his life and journey. Even though he had demons in his head he always would pray. He would give homeless people money; pray for everyone. You could tell he had a big heart. Did you know that he was the first artist to debut an album at No. 1 five times in a row on the Billboard 200 charts? Here are some of the movies he played in:
