  • We Have a Ghost (Film)

    Movie: We Have a Ghost

    Watch: On Netflix

    By: Cece Hymes

This movie was pretty good. It was about a ghost in a house that ran people off. This other family moves into the house and when the teenage boy finds a ghost in the attic he is not scared. He records to make sure it is real and wants to help the ghost. When his brother sees the video on his brother’s phone he shows his dad and his dad wants to upload it on YouTube. He thinks this will help him become famous and make money.

Ernest, who is the ghost, can’t remember what happened to him. He is unable to speak and is really friendly. Kevin, the teenager, becomes friends with the ghost. Kevin and his neighbor start finding clues to figure out who Ernest is. A washed up scientist who once headed a CIA program to investigate paranormal activity sees the YouTube that Kevin Dad Frank put up. She sees this as an opportunity to get back into her Career. She is determined to get Ernest and put him up under observation.

Kevin and the neighbor find a picture with Ernest and a guy. They find out who the guy is and where he lives. They have to drive miles to go find him. So, Kevin takes his brother’s car and he and the neighbor leave. On their journey they run into cops, and they get away. They go through some things to get to their destination. Little by little Ernest sees little parts of his life when he was alive of a little girl who is his daughter.

They get to the guy’s house and then the cops bust in and capture Ernest. Kevin is sad because Ernest is his best friend and it’s like he can’t help him get away. He really wanted to help Ernest, that’s his friend. I don’t want to give up all the details of the movie. You have to go watch it.

If you see it let me know what your thoughts are. I really enjoyed it. It has some humor parts, action and also emotional parts but overall, it is a great movie. It is inspiring also. Make sure to follow me @Cece.atl

  • My Place or Mine Film

    Movie: My Place or Mine

    By: Cece Hymes

Got a chance to watch this movie on Netflix. It was about Debbie and Peter, they hooked up 20 years ago one time. Peter told Debbie he wasn’t ready for a relationship. So, they become best friends. Peter had moved away to New York While Debbie was in LA. Within the 20 years Debbie has a son and is married she gets a divorce but her life is based around her son.

Debbie has to go away to take a final in New York her babysitter cancels on her so Peter decides to come and babysit her son for a week. They swap houses and lives for one week. They discover what they think they want but might not be what they really need.

My motto is always your best friend is your soulmate. So many people are scared to take that jump because they think it will mess up their friendship, some people settle in relationships not happy just because they have kids together. Can you imagine having a best friend that’s the opposite sex that you can communicate about everything and also be different from one another. It takes that balance.

We as people ignore the signs and spend our lives looking for happiness when it is right under our nose. I enjoyed this movie, it showed what true friends are like and taking chances. It also showed that when you have great people in your life don’t let them go. Nothing beats a failure but to try new things out to see what makes you happy. It also tells you to be honest with yourself and speak up. Things could be so different in life if you wouldn’t hold out on things.

Debbie and Peter needed that week to live each other’s life so that they could push each other for greatness. Peter helped out with showing her son a new life and new things and Debbie pushed Peter’s book that he always wanted to get published but never pushed it.

Great movie on Netflix if you watched it let me know what you think. If you haven’t, check it out.

  • Eat Pray Love Film

    Movie: Eat Pray Love

    By: Cece Hymes

This movie came out back in 2010. I am just now watching it and it was good. I love Julie Roberts. She is a great actor. This film was about a lady named Liz that thought she had everything she ever wanted in life, a home, a husband, a great career. She finds herself not happy. She wants to find out what is important to her and what makes her happy. She gets divorced and then goes to travel to different countries to figure out life.

Liz travels to Italy, India and Bali and learns things on her journey. She meets new friends, learns to meditate and finds she loves to eat. She still has feelings and can’t seem to get over the pain of leaving her husband. She also helps people on her journey. She makes others happy while trying to figure out what makes her happy. She steps out of her comfort zone and tries new foods, studies a new language and reads and learns new cultures.

I would love to travel to different places and to learn how other cultures live and see things. I started a new journey of mine to educate myself more on the world and what is right where I am. I want to travel to 50 states and different countries and at least do 3 to 5 things in each state.

Watching this movie inspired me to continue my journey and not give up. To learn and listen. To meet new people and meditate. Also, on her journey she opens up again to date. She was scared to open her heart because she gets in deep when she is in a relationship and thinks she will lose herself. Sometimes people can forget who they are when they get involved with someone. Nothing like giving it a try you never know what it will bring.

Great movie on Netflix if you watched it let me know what you think. If you haven’t, check it out. It is based on a true story of Elizabeth Gilbert’s personal experience.

  • True Spirit Film on Netflix

    Movie: True Spirit

    By: Cece Hymes

This movie was about a teenager who plans to become the youngest sailor to travel the world alone. She has been traveling with her family all her life, so she thinks she is prepared for it. She has a mentor that guides her since she was a little girl and they practically become best friends. Her parents are scared but at the same time want her to follow her dreams. Her family is her biggest supporter and helps her prepare for her journey.

Her mentor gets a team together to build her boat and make sure it is good. She will travel around the sea and back home. She didn’t think about how lonely it would be out there by herself, the food lasting, or not being able to move if there’s no wind.

She goes through this journey and is able to call home and she blogs to keep the world informed of her mission and what is going on with her. She goes through a depressing point, and she really misses her family.

It’s times out there on the sea where she is scared and goes through challenges. She sticks it out because she has no choice, thankfully she has her family to be a supporter and talk to her with guidance and support.

Can you picture a 16-year-old all alone on the water and a female. The emotions that she has to go through. Not knowing if she is going to make it back home, not knowing how big the storms are going to be. This movie is also based on the true story of Jessica Watson. She had to overcome her greatest fear.

If you haven’t checked out the movie check it out and let me know what you think. I loved it. I got inspired by it and also emotional. You can catch it on Netflix.

  • You People on Netflix

    Film: You People

    By: Cece Hymes

This was a great film. Had some great actors in it like Lauren London, Eddie Murphy, Nia Long, Jonah Hill and more. This relates to the world and relationships. It shows that interracial couples can go through a lot trying to combine family and be blended when both have different religions, opinions, and views of things.

I like the relationship that the interracial couple had. They loved each other for who they were. They had a good relationship besides what their family put them through. They tried to combine both and it just got worse. I think all relationships go through things and sometimes families can be difficult trying to blend together.  Love is love and you can’t help who you love. You don’t date the family but you don’t want to get disrespected by them also.

It had its funny parts and it also had a great point. It is what we go through in today’s world. I definitely think this movie came out at the right time. It’s close to Valentine Day and where couples are together. Sometimes people only see the bad in someone and not the good. It’s crazy that families really go through this kind of stuff. If you are in this kind of predicament stay strong and know good things are coming.

Check out this movie and tell me what you thought about it? How do you think the actors did? Do you think you could be with someone that your family did not like? If you haven’t seen it, check it out on Netflix. Also follow me @Cece.Atl

  • From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home

Book: From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home

    Author: Tembi Locke

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was our January Book read. I watched the series on Netflix so I couldn’t wait to read the book.  The book was also good and had some things that were different from the series but still worth the read. It was about a lady named Tembi who goes to Italy. She wants to do something different with her life. Instead of her parents taking care of her she wants to support herself. She meets this Guy named Sato who is a chef. It was like love at first sight with them. Saro’s family is Sicilian. They have certain traditions and him being with a black American woman is one that they disapprove of.

Sato and Tembi fall deep for one another and no matter what they have to go through they face it together. They enjoy their time that is spent together and then she has to go back to the U.S. and they do the long distance thing for a little. Then Saro goes to the U.S. to start his new life with Tembi. They go through things like every couple. Sato misses his family a lot but tries to stay positive. Sato and Tembi get married and he invites his family which still disowns him. He really wants his family to be there but it’s not going to stop him from marrying Tembi. His parents did not make it but someone in his family did, and others sent congratulations by fax. Sato gets sick and Tembi sticks by him. They decide to adopt a little girl from birth and raise her.

Later in the years Sato gets Sick again and his family comes around to at least talk to him and be a part of his daughter’s life. It’s so sad. One thing I can say is that I love it when two people become friends first and then lovers. I always say your best friend is your soulmate. Especially when you can communicate and talk about everything. You go through the highs and lows and still put each other first. That’s the love I respect and love. Tembi learned how to deal with life day by day and to keep her daughter knowing both sides of the family. It takes a village to raise a child and takes family and friends to help when a person is grieving.

I loved the book and the series, both were great. Make sure to check both out and tell me what you think. There’s a lot more to the story but I don’t want to give it away and tell too much of the book. If you have read the book and would like to join our Virtual discussion the first week of February comment below and I will reach out to you.  You can follow Cece Book Club or follow me @Cece.Atl
