  • I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette Mccurdy

Book: I’m Glad My Mom Died

    Author: Jennette McCurdy

    By: Cece Hymes

I had a chance to read this book. When I saw the title, I was like wow who would write a book like this? I didn’t really know who she was, but my daughters did because they watched the show she was in. I do like reading people’s memoirs on how they got to where they are today. A lot of celebrities, well people in general, have gone through a lot in life. Let’s get into this book.

It was about Jennette McCurdy’s life. If you do not know who she is she plays in the show Sam & Cat by ICarly. She talks about how she struggles with eating disorder; addiction and I would say emotional abuse from her mother. Her mom has been in control of her life since day 1. She practically lived her life through her child. What Mother washes and shaves their child all the way up to when the child is an adult. Her Mother made her do acting at a young age, but Jennette hated acting. She did anything her mom said because she wanted to make her mom happy and not disappoint her.  She talks on how she got different gigs and how she got on nickelodeon.

It’s a lot of things that go on behind closed doors that actors/actresses deal with. Models also go through it. People love to give hush money for people not to talk about it. I can’t even imagine what was going through her mom’s head besides money for her to treat a child and her own child the way she did. Her mother manipulated her throughout her whole life and now that she is grown, she is learning a lot but still confused at the same time.

Glad she decided to get help and try to get her life on a ball the way she is living can really hurt her. When reading this book, I like how she didn’t bash her mom which I know that others would but explained it in a way to tell her life. She hated what she did to her but would always love her because she would always be her mom. She looked at life as being a lie, but you can’t go back, you can only go forth. Going forward and making changes. She took a break from life and got some help, had some friends pushing her in the right direction and also went to get a connection with her dad. I know it’s going to take therapy and great people by her side to keep pushing but believing. Starting with change and yourself is always great.

I hope that everything goes well for her and that she gets the help she needs. I also hope she will be better than everyone who did her wrong in life and that she truly has true love so whenever she starts her own family, she will give them nothing but love, realness and guidance.

This book was an eye opener and also sad but again, I love reading about people’s journeys and how they got to where they are. Even if you do not know who she is, it’s still a book that you can read about addictions, manipulations and the way she became a celebrity and more.

  • Self Made Boss Book by Jackie Reses & Lauren Weinberg

    Book: Self-Made Boss

Author: Jackie Reses & Lauren Weinberg

    By: Cece Hymes

This Book was for small businesses. It shows you what you need to do to start a small business. It talks about business plans, LLC’s, marketing and more. It had different stories of how people started their business and succeeded in life.

This book had great tips for businesses. As I was reading, I took plenty of notes. Some things I already knew but refreshing my mind was what I needed. I love hearing people’s journeys and testimonies. It gives me the position to keep pushing and some things that stand out that I need to research that I have missed in starting my business.

If you are thinking of starting a business or just getting started this is the right book for you.

  • Reach for the Skai book by Skai Jackson

Book: Reach for the Skai (How to Inspire, Empower, and Clapback)

    Author: Skai Jackson

    By: Cece Hymes

I picked up this book because the words on it caught my attention. I did not know who she was, but my daughter did. It was a good read about her life and her journey. I loved that her mother supported her and pushed her in the right direction, always a good thing to have a great support system. If you do not know who Skai is, she is an actress and played on the show Bunk’d and Jessie.  She created her own fashion line, and a lot of doors have opened for her.

Skai went through a lot especially being in the social media world. Just like everyone else you have your ups and downs in life. These days becoming a celebrity and dealing with social media is hard.  She managed to clapback on some on social media but not in a bad way. Her story will encourage the youth to reach for the sky and follow their dreams.

I wanted my daughter to read the book because I was hoping it would inspire her in a way.  It was good to read about her journey as a little girl and how she got to where she is today.

  • American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

    Book: American Dirt

    Author: Jeanine Cummins

American Dirt—Now what can I say about this book. It was a good read. I learned about immigrants and how they travel to come to the United States. Reading this book and knowing what the Cartels can do to you. Being on the run to try to protect family and people you love. How you have to be strong in each way to try to survive.

Lydia & Luca bond and braveness to survival teached and showed me how you have to be strong in the world. They were forced to leave everything behind to survive. They go through a lot of trials and bad things travelling and learning that you can’t trust everyone.

Lydia believed and, in this book, I believed that her husband was with her the whole time.  The journey and experiences were heartbreaking. Hated what the cartels can do to a person. Lucas was so strong to be just 8 years old. Lucas stood up for himself and others that he cared about.

Immigrants and what they have to do to try to come over to the States is a lot. Just thinking of violence, rape, hunger, being dehydrated and no money just to try to survive. Having to sleep with one eye open. How people can take advantage of someone without a care in the world.

This book definitely opened my eyes to want to do more in the community and do more for people in need if I can.

  • Book: The Wedding Crasher

    Book: The Wedding Crasher

    Author: Mia Sosa

    By: Cece Hymes

This book was good. It had me mixed with all kinds of emotions. Could you just imagine the lady that ended your Wedding becoming a woman that you fall for? I love how honest they were with each other and becoming friends. A lot of people have they guard up trying to wait on true love as others have it as it’s just a part of what you are supposed to do in life.

Reading this book really showed me some things that I do and don’t want to do in a relationship. It had some great points and laughter. Also had a lot of naughty time in there. If you found out the bride was not in love with the groom, would you stop the wedding? In all the books I have read, people pretend to be someone’s girlfriend and they always fall for the person. You can’t pretend to be with people that are worthy to date and you are single.

Overall, this book was worth the read. I love reading love stories with its ups and downs and twists. I have to read all the series for this. The Author did a good job, and I would recommend it. Make me want to go and pretend to be someone’s girlfriend and see how it goes. Like they say love comes when you unexpected it. Check out the book and tell me what you think.

  • Survive the Night (Book)

    Book: Survive the night

    Author: Riley Sager

    By: Cece Hymes

This Book was really good. I enjoyed it. It was about a movie-obsessed college student Charlie who is in a car with a stranger who she thinks might be a serial killer. The man is a virtual stranger who she thinks goes to school where she is at. Charlie is trying to get away from a guilt and grief over a murder of her friend.

While Charlie is in the car, she keeps thinking of movies she can’t tell whether she zoned out into a movie or is this real life. She tries to think so hard if her mind is playing tricks with her or is this really the serial killer.  The driver says things here and there to make her think that he definitely is the campus killer.

Things take the wrong turn and things start to hit the fan as she plans her escape and also her revenge for her friend. She misses her friend a lot.

Would you even get in a car with a stranger if you knew the serial killer was out there? Why doesn’t she have a cellphone like everyone else does? If you watch so many movies can you turn everything into movie themes? Would that be cool or scary? I just would be so scared to try to survive the night thinking I might die tonight.

Just some things to think about. I enjoyed this book. If you like a good thriller with some action this is the book for you.
