    Wilma Rudolph was a sprinter who overcame childhood polio and went on to become a world record holding Olympic champion and international sports icon in track and field. Her nicknames were “Skeeter” “The Flash” “The Track Star” and many more.

    Wilma was a sports icon of Track and Field who became a role model for female athletes worldwide. Wilma Rudolph was an enthusiastic advocate of Civil and Women’s Rights.  She also was the first American woman to win 3 Gold Medals in a single Olympics. She won her medals in the 100m dash. 200m dash, and the 4x100m relay race.

    Did you know Wilma was inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame and was inducted into the international Sports Hall of Fame. She inspired a lot of people all over the world. She wore a brace for a twisted leg and still did not give up on her dreams.

    Pele was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. I had to do a little research on Pele. I didn’t know much about him but once I researched him I was very interested. When he was 16, he had a dream to play for the Brazilian National team. His dream came true. Pele charmed everyone with his brilliance in sport, stopped a war, performed social work around the world. He was one of the greatest players of all time and labelled “The Greatest” By FIFA.

    Did you know Pele was included in the “Time” list of the 100 most important people in the 20th Century? Pele had a statue made in Rio de Janeiro. Pele was the minister in sport and inspired people all over the world. Pele had several autobiographies, starred in documentary films, and composed musical pieces.   • John Madden (Great Memories)

    John Madden was an American football coach and sportscaster. He won Super Bowl XI as head coach of the Oakland Raiders over the Minnesota Vikings, and after retiring from coaching became a well-known color commentator for NFL telecasts.

    Did you know in 2006 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in recognition of his coaching career. He also is known for the long-running Madden NFL video game series. What a gift he was to football. He was definitely the goat for color commentators, he didn’t miss anything.  Some of my favorite quotes by him are:

    “Don’t worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon”

    “Self-praise is for losers”

    “Well, when you’re playing good football, it’s good football and if you don’t have good football, then you’re not really playing good football”
