Hey everyone! Welcome back to Cece On the Scenes! 🍿🎬❤️
You know I love a good love story, so when I saw that The Love Hypothesis was finally a movie on Prime Video, I already knew I had to watch it!

And here’s the thing… I read the book first! 📖
So, of course, I had to see how the story would make the jump from the pages to the screen.
💕 From Book to Movie

The Love Hypothesis is based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling 2021 romance novel. The movie stars Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith and Tom Bateman as Dr. Adam Carlsen, with Rachel Marsh playing Olive’s best friend Anh. The movie premiered on Prime Video on September 23, 2026.
And here’s a fun little piece of history for my fellow book lovers:
The story actually began as Star Wars fan fiction! 🤯
Ali Hazelwood originally wrote a Rey and Kylo Ren-inspired story before reworking it into what became The Love Hypothesis. Talk about a story taking on a life of its own! From fan fiction to a bestselling novel to a major movie adaptation—that is quite the journey.
🧪 So What’s the Movie About?

Without giving away too much…
Olive is a Ph.D. student who finds herself in a bit of a complicated situation when she realizes her best friend Anh has feelings for Olive’s crush.
In an impulsive moment, Olive kisses the intimidating professor Adam Carlsen—and suddenly, a fake relationship is born.
What starts as an arrangement eventually gets a whole lot more complicated when real feelings enter the equation.
And let’s be honest…
We KNOW how these fake-dating stories usually go! 😂❤️
The movie gives us romance, awkward moments, friendship, some boldness, emotions and plenty of those moments where you’re sitting there thinking, “Girl… what are you doing?!”
📖 Book vs. Movie

Since I read the book, I naturally found myself comparing the two.
And yes—there are differences.
The movie doesn’t follow the book scene-for-scene, and some characters, storylines and moments were changed or condensed for the screen. That’s pretty normal when a nearly 400-page romance has to become a movie that’s around two hours long.
But I didn’t go into the movie expecting it to be exactly like the book.
I wanted to see the movie version of a story I already enjoyed, and I think that’s the best way to approach book-to-movie adaptations.
👯♀️ Let’s Talk About Friendship
One thing that really stood out to me was the friendship element.
Because underneath all the romance, there’s something we don’t talk about enough:
Having friends who genuinely want to see you happy.
Not friends who secretly compete with you.
Not friends who only show up when things are going well.
Not friends who make everything about themselves.
I’m talking about the people who say:
“Go for it.”
“I’m happy for you.”
“You deserve to be happy.”
“I’m here for you.”
Those friendships are priceless.
And sometimes the best love stories aren’t just about finding romantic love.
They’re also about realizing who is standing beside you while you’re figuring out your life.
