    Simone Biles

    Simone Biles is an artistic gymnast. Her seven Olympic Medals for the most Olympic medals. Having won 25 world championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast in the history of the Gymnastics World Championships and is considered by many sources to be the greatest gymnast of all time.

    Simone Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden.  She is amazing and very talented. She has inspired a lot of people all over the world.  I love to see her winning. Simone is also featured in multiple anthologies starring female athletes, including “She Persisted in Sports: American Olympians who Changed the Game”.

    One of her quotes that has trend all over the world I love this quote:

    “I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the first Simone Biles”

    Jordan Chiles is an artistic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the team event.  She is definitely a sports icon.

    Jordan Chiles made her international debut at the city of Jesolo Trophy. She won a gold medal with the team and finished sixth in the all-around.

    Wilma Rudolph was a sprinter who overcame childhood polio and went on to become a world record holding Olympic champion and international sports icon in track and field. Her nicknames were “Skeeter” “The Flash” “The Track Star” and many more.

    Wilma was a sports icon of Track and Field who became a role model for female athletes worldwide. Wilma Rudolph was an enthusiastic advocate of Civil and Women’s Rights.  She also was the first American woman to win 3 Gold Medals in a single Olympics. She won her medals in the 100m dash. 200m dash, and the 4x100m relay race.

    Did you know Wilma was inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame and was inducted into the international Sports Hall of Fame. She inspired a lot of people all over the world. She wore a brace for a twisted leg and still did not give up on her dreams.

    Jackie Joyner Kersee

    Jackie Joyner Kersee is a retired Olympic gold medalist considered one of the all-time greatest female heptathletes, she won three Olympics gold medals.

    Did you know she was a starting forward in basketball for UCLA’s women’s squad? Sports Illustrated voted her the greatest female athlete of the 20th century. Jackie Joyner-Kersee is an active philanthropist in children’s education and women’s rights. She is the founder of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, which encourages young people in East St. Louis to pursue athletics and academics.

    I love this quote by her:

    “There are many women who came before me who didn’t really have the same opportunities that I have had. That’s why I always wanted to be a great ambassador- not only today’s generation-but for the women who really didn’t have a voice but who paved the way for me.”

    Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

    Shelly- Ann- Fraser Pryce is a Jamaican track and field sprinter. She made history. She became the first Caribbean woman to win the 100-metre title, at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. She created more history at the 2013 World Championship in Moscow, Russia, winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m events, becoming the first woman to complete the triple in a single world championship.

    Did you know that she was also appointed the first National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Jamaica. She is an inspiration and definitely a sports icon.

    We got to give her flowers today for believing and inspiring others all around the world. She is focused. Back in the day women were never allowed to compete in the Olympics but times have changed. Never give up on your dreams.

    Interview with Dawn Harper Nelson

    Q. Tell us who you are and where you’re from.

    A. I am Dawn Harper-Nelson, an Olympic gold and silver medalist. I am a wife and a mom and I am also from East St. Louis.

    Q. What made you want to compete in the Olympics?

    A. Well, I started running track and became passionate about it early in life. Then I really started competing once I reached UCLA. I met my role Joyner Kersey, when I was about 13 and she gave me some encouraging words. I had the talent and I worked hard at it and I took off from there.

    Q. How was the experience training for the Olympics in Japan?

    A. It was mind blowing! I actually competed in two other Olympics, Beijing and London. It was just the thought of meeting people with different cultures all over the globe, and to be amongst the best of the best from each country.
