Did You Know There’s a Castle in Georgia? Visiting Uhuburg Eagle Owl Castle in Helen, GA

Happy Sunday!

There’s just something about discovering places you never knew existed.

Did you know there’s a castle in Georgia? Yep—a real castle tucked away in the beautiful mountain town of Helen!

This weekend I finally checked another destination off my Cece in the City Bucket List with a visit to Uhuburg (Eagle Owl Castle), and let me tell you…it did not disappoint.

Now, before we talk about those amazing views, can we have a moment for this Georgia heat? Whew! Y’all already know your girl does not do heat. By the time we started climbing those stairs, I was glad I packed my personal neck fan! 😂 I was a little lightheaded and completely out of breath, but I kept telling myself, “Just make it to the top.”

And I’m so glad I did.

The view overlooking the North Georgia mountains was absolutely breathtaking. Standing at the top, looking out across the trees and hills, made every step worth it. Sometimes the best views really do come after the hardest climb.

A Little History

Uhuburg, also known as Eagle Owl Castle, is a privately built European-style castle inspired by medieval architecture. The name “Uhuburg” comes from the German word “Uhu,” meaning eagle owl, and “burg,” meaning castle. Since Helen embraces its Bavarian heritage, the castle fits perfectly with the town’s charming German-inspired atmosphere.

Visitors can explore the castle grounds, towers, and scenic overlooks while enjoying some of the most beautiful mountain views in North Georgia. It feels like you’ve stepped into another country without ever leaving Georgia.

We Beat the Rain!

Talk about perfect timing.

Just as we were leaving the castle, the skies opened up and the rain came pouring down. I looked back and thought, “Thank you, Lord, for letting us finish before all that started!” Sometimes your timing is better than you even realize.

Next Stop…Food!

After all those stairs, we had definitely earned a good meal.

We headed over to Golden Apple Buffet. It was my friend’s first visit, and my 3rd. I think they understood why I keep coming back.

Honestly, I had one thing on my mind…fruit!

The cherries, watermelon, and mango were exactly what I needed after being out in that heat. Fresh, sweet, and refreshing—it hit the spot.

And Then…

When I finally made it home, that Georgia sun had completely worn me out. I took one of those naps where you wake up wondering what day it is. 😂

It was the perfect ending to a wonderful adventure.

One more place checked off the Cece in the City Bucket List, new memories made, lots of laughs, beautiful views, and another reminder that Georgia is full of hidden gems waiting to be explored.

If you’ve never visited Uhuburg (Eagle Owl Castle) in Helen, I definitely recommend adding it to your travel list. Just wear comfortable shoes, bring plenty of water, and if you’re anything like me…try to go when it’s a little cooler outside!

Until the next adventure…
