One of my favorite parts of the week is sharing a book I’ve finished and talking about whether it’s worth adding to your reading list. As many of you know, I love reading because every book takes me somewhere different. Some books make me laugh, some make me cry, and others make me think about life long after I’ve turned the last page.
Today’s featured book is Our Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune, and I’m giving it ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4 out of 5 stars).
This was a sweet, emotional, and beautifully written romance that explores one of my favorite tropes—friends to lovers. If you’ve ever wondered whether two best friends should take a chance on love or keep things exactly the way they are, this book does a wonderful job of showing just how complicated that decision can be.
The story follows Frankie and George, who have been best friends since they were just 8 years old. They’ve grown up together, shared countless memories, celebrated life’s happiest moments, and supported each other through the hardest ones. Their friendship is the kind many people dream of having. They’re always there for each other, no matter what.
As they grow older, it’s obvious that their connection is much deeper than friendship. They know each other better than anyone else. They understand each other’s strengths, weaknesses, dreams, fears, and even the things left unsaid. They are each other’s biggest supporters, biggest comfort, and in many ways, each other’s home.
The funny thing is…everyone around them can see it.
Friends, family, and everyone who knows them believes Frankie and George are meant to be together.
Everyone except Frankie and George.
Both of them have loved each other for years, but neither one is willing to risk everything they’ve built. They keep asking themselves the same question so many people ask in real life:
What if we ruin the friendship?
That’s what made this story feel so relatable to me. Sometimes friendship is one of the strongest foundations for love, but it’s also one of the scariest relationships to change. Once you cross that line, there’s no guarantee you can ever go back. If things don’t work out, you don’t just lose a relationship—you could lose your best friend.
But then there’s the other side of that question.
What if the person who already knows you better than anyone else is actually the love of your life?
What if the person who’s loved you through every stage of life is the one you’re meant to spend forever with?
That emotional tug-of-war is what kept me turning the pages.
I also appreciated that this wasn’t just a romance. Both Frankie and George have their own personal journeys and challenges to face. The book isn’t only about falling in love—it’s about growing as individuals, healing, learning to be honest with yourself, and finding the courage to take a chance, even when there’s something important to lose.
Carley Fortune has a way of writing relationships that feel natural and believable. The conversations, emotions, and chemistry between the characters never felt forced. I found myself smiling during some moments, frustrated during others, and constantly hoping they would finally realize what everyone else already knew.
One thing I enjoy about romance novels like this is that they remind us love isn’t always about grand gestures or dramatic moments. Sometimes love is found in the person who’s quietly been standing beside you all along. The one who knows your favorite coffee order, remembers your childhood stories, celebrates your victories, and helps carry you through your hardest days.
Those kinds of relationships are rare, and this book captures that beautifully.
Overall, I really enjoyed Our Perfect Storm. While there were a few moments where the pacing slowed down for me—which is why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5—I still found it to be a heartfelt, enjoyable read with characters I genuinely cared about.
