Happy Monday everyone! I hope all the mothers had a beautiful and love-filled Mother’s Day weekend. Mother’s Day can be bittersweet for me. While so many people are celebrating with their moms and grandmothers, I carry mine in my heart. My mom and grandma are no longer here with me physically, but they continue to guide me as my angels. Their love, lessons, and memories stay with me every single day, especially during moments like this.

Even through the emotions, I’m thankful I was able to spend the weekend surrounded by good energy, music, family, friends, and new experiences.

Saturday, I got the chance to attend the Mother’s Day concert featuring legendary R&B artists 112, Blackstreet, and Jaheim. If you know me, then you already know I LOVE me some old-school R&B! There’s just something about that feel-good music that brings back memories, makes you sing your heart out, and reminds you to enjoy life in the moment. Jaheim’s voice still sounds amazing, and hearing those classic songs live was such a vibe. Blackstreet and 112 definitely brought the energy too!

And I have to give a special shoutout to one of my favorite DJs, DJ Stormy, who absolutely did her thing. Watching people you support continue to shine is always inspiring, and I was so proud of her.
Now… if y’all hear me singing in the background of the clips, just overlook it LOL! When the music hits, I can’t help myself.
The weekend wasn’t just about music though. My kids made me lunch and surprised me with goodies — including crab legs because they know that’s one of my favorites. Those small thoughtful moments mean so much to me and reminded me how blessed I truly am.

I also got to try something new — Wayback Burgers. It was definitely different from my usual spots, but honestly pretty good! What made it even more interesting was learning a little history behind the brand. Wayback Burgers actually started back in 1991 in Newark, Delaware, originally called Jake’s Hamburgers. The restaurant became known for serving made-to-order burgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, and that classic old-school burger joint feel. Later the company rebranded to Wayback Burgers as a nod to taking people “way back” to the simple, feel-good days of traditional American burgers and diners. I love learning little fun facts like that while trying new places because it makes the experience even more memorable.

One of my favorite parts was finally visiting Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary. I had been planning to go for a while but just never made the time. I’m so glad I finally checked it off my list! The sanctuary has actually been around for decades and first opened in the 1960s as a nature preserve and wildlife attraction focused on education, conservation, and giving people a closer look at animals and nature. Located near the Yellow River in Georgia, it has become a peaceful getaway for families, animal lovers, and nature explorers over the years.
The weather was perfect for walking and exploring. I got to see bears, foxes, bison, lemurs, and so much more. Being surrounded by nature always brings me peace. There’s something calming about slowing down, walking trails, and just taking in the beauty around you.
Even though part of me felt a little sad this weekend, I’m grateful I chose to get out, enjoy life, and create memories anyway. Life is short, and sometimes healing comes through experiences, laughter, music, nature, and simply being around people who care about you.
I appreciate everyone who helped make this weekend a little brighter for me. I’m always trying something new, exploring different places, and making memories along the way. That’s what Cece in the City is all about — living life, finding joy, and sharing the journey.
Live life while you can. Some places stay on your list for years, and one day you finally decide to go. I’m glad I finally made time for Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary because moments like these remind me that life is meant to be experienced.
Stay tuned… more adventures, food spots, concerts, and hidden gems are on the way!
