Book Review with Cece: Off the Air by Christina Estes

Happy Wednesday, book lovers! ✨ It’s time for another Cece Book Review Wednesday, where we chat about the latest read from Cece Book Club and keep our 50 States Reading Challenge going strong.

🌵 May’s Book Club Pick: Arizona Edition

Our May book club read was Off the Air by Christina Estes, chosen as our Arizona-themed book for the states challenge. I finally discussed it with the club in June, and let’s just say… this one was a slow burn. 🔥

⭐ My Rating: 3/5 Stars

I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars. Here’s the honest Cece take:

  • 📖 The beginning and middle felt very long and slow. There were moments where I had to push myself to keep reading.
  • 😴 Some parts dragged on a bit too much. A few people in the book club even admitted they didn’t finish it because the pacing was tough.
  • 👀 But… the last 20 pages changed things. Once the story picked up, the mystery finally delivered some action and suspense.
  • 🕵🏽‍♀️ It kept me guessing. I truly did not know who killed the man, and I appreciate a mystery that isn’t predictable from chapter three!

  • 📺 What the Book Is About
Without giving too much away, Off the Air follows a TV reporter caught in the middle of a murder investigation, blending newsroom drama with mystery and suspense in the Arizona setting. The desert atmosphere and media-world backdrop were interesting touches, especially for readers who enjoy journalism-themed stories.

    💭 My Final Thoughts
This wasn’t my favorite mystery of the year, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Sometimes books take a while to find their rhythm, and this one definitely saved most of its excitement for the ending.

If you enjoy slow-burn mysteries, newsroom settings, and stories that keep the killer hidden until the end, you may enjoy it more than I did. But if you love fast-paced thrillers with action from page one, this one might test your patience a little.

📚 Cece Book Club Corner

One thing I love about book club is hearing different opinions. Some members thought the book was too slow to finish, while others appreciated the mystery element. That’s the beauty of reading together — every book sparks a different conversation. 💬✨ Have you read Off the Air by Christina Estes? I’d love to know your thoughts!

🎯 Reading Goal Update

And can we celebrate this for a second? 🎉📖 Off the Air officially became Book #44 of the year for me!My goal for 2026 is 52 books, and I’m already getting so close. The pages, the late-night reading sessions, the book club chats — it’s all adding up beautifully.
